RIPLEY

Distances 100kms and 11okms

The route to Ripley takes us west from Balham out to Thames Ditton, over the Thames at Hampton Court Palace and follows the river on to Chertsey. Leaving Chertsey we climb one of the route’s few hills to Lyne, then through the woods at Fox Hills, this is where the longer version heads a little further west to Chobham and Pennypot.

We loop around Horsell Common and cross the Basingstoke Canal at West Byfleet. It is at this point the coffee-stop options present themselves: you can either follow Lock Lane to the The Anchor on the River Wey or follow Warren Lane, past Newark Priory and into Ripley. Pinnock’s cafe is at the junction of the route and Ripley High St. We return through the lanes past Ockham, Martyrs Green and Downside using a traffic free track alongside the River Mole linking to Stoke D’Abernon. Through the grand Fairmile Estate to join the Portsmouth Rd, skirt Esher and Sandown Park. Finally Surbiton, Norbiton then we re-trace our outward route back to Balham.
