MUDGUARDS

November to March

From the beginning of November until the end of March we ask that you fit full mudguards for all group rides. This is a collective effort to make riding through the winter much more pleasant and enjoyable…allowing us to continue to ride in well organised groups. Fellow members will all appreciate not having themselves, their BCC kit and bikes sprayed with water and grime.

We ask you to do this for 3 key reasons:

1. Safety.
Seeing where you are going. When the roads are wet a bike without mudguards will spray the rider behind with water and road grime making it difficult to see where you’re going.
2. Safety.
Being able to stay close together as a group allows us to ‘own’ our position on the road. This is quickly undermined if riders space out to avoid being sprayed in the face.
3. Safety.
Stay dry - Stay warm. Avoiding getting cold and wet on rides through winter months will make them significantly more enjoyable.

Many mudguards on the market are designed to keep you dry but still will let water/grime spray all over the riders behind. Please check the diagram below and review the set up on your bike, if they don’t provide this amount of wheel coverage, please re-fit or re-place.
